The CAPS 2025 Annual Meeting will be held at the Fairmont Winnipeg Hotel in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on September 18th to 20th, 2025. The hotel is a short walk from the beautiful water front, known as the Forks, that marks the junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers as well as the site of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. We are looking forward to a fantastic meeting at a wonderful and historic venue!

Luks (1)

Our 49th JPS/Fred Macleod lecturer will be Dr. Francois LuksFrancois Luks is the J. Murray Beardsley Professor of Pediatric Surgery and Professor of Surgery, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. He is the Pediatric Surgeon-in-Chief and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery at Hasbro Children's. As a medical student, he drew a daily comic strip for several newspapers and later started to illustrate some of his own research publications, then those of colleagues. While not an illustrator by trade, he is passionate about the power and responsibility of visual communication in promoting humanism, compassion and empathy in medicine.

By day, he is a pediatric and fetal surgeon; After hours, he teaches a course in medical illustration to Brown undergrads and students at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), leads workshops in medical illustration for medical students, residents and faculty, and runs a workshop on medical comics. His book, MedSpeak Illuminated: The art and practice of medical illustration (Kent State University Press) dives deeper in the wonderful world of visual communication. He finds the time to do all this because he doesn't play pickleball!
