Fellowship Position in Winnipeg, MB

I am sending this notice to let you know about our university accredited Pediatric Surgery fellowship Program at the University of Manitoba.

It is a full hands on, clinical (with available research opportunities) 1 or 2 years program at the Health Science Centre/ Winnipeg Children’s Hospital which is the largest adult hospital and only pediatric hospital in the province and is a Level 1 Trauma Centre. We are a group of 7 surgeons, with some dual appointments in research and PICU. We are currently supported by a team of physician and clinical assistants, as well as a nurse practitioner.

It is a SINGLE FELLOW, university-accredited program (not Royal College) which provides flexibility to meet the varied objectives of each fellow from diverse training backgrounds and with diverse future needs. We have had fellows for over 12 years, including VISA trainees, trainees with a gap year before their pediatric surgery fellowship, fully trained surgeons looking to refine MIS skills (current fellow), and other general surgeons looking to expand their pediatric surgery capabilities (incoming fellow).

We have a full pediatric surgery service  with both open and advanced MIS capacity, including in the abdomen and thorax. We are increasingly using ICG and cryoablation, and have access to a Davinci robot for future considerations. We offer flexibility in off-service rotations (PICU, NICU, pediatric Urology, pediatric Gynecology etc..). While not Royal College accredited, we follow the Royal College framework through the use of CBD to monitor EPAs for ongoing evaluation and support. We have a robust educational program and many opportunities to participate in research projects.

Funding is NOT a pre-request for our program as the fellow will be eligible to bill as surgical assistant which will generate the required fellow salary (currently approximately 75k/year as set out by the university). We hope to be able to support some fellowship costs, such as attendance at courses and meetings.
