La Division de chirurgie pédiatrique et thoracique du CHU Sainte-Justine, affiliée à l’Université de Montréal, est à la recherche d’un chirurgien certifié ou admissible à la certification en chirurgie générale pédiatrique avec surspécialisation en transplantation (hépatique et rénale). La Division de chirurgie pédiatrique pratique au sein du Centre hospitalier universitaire Sainte-Justine à Montréal.

Le CHU Sainte-Justine est le plus grand centre mère-enfant au Canada et le deuxième en importance en Amérique du Nord. Hôpital autonome dédié aux enfants et aux mères, il compte 420 lits et offre un environnement multidisciplinaire unique, entièrement consacré à la santé pédiatrique, maternelle et fœtale.

Reconnu pour son excellence clinique, sa recherche de pointe et son engagement envers l’innovation, le CHU Sainte-Justine est également un centre universitaire majeur de formation. Son programme de formation en chirurgie pédiatrique existe depuis 1957 et compte en permanence trois postes de fellowship.

Le CHU Sainte-Justine est l’un des trois seuls centres au Canada où s’effectue la transplantation hépatique pédiatrique, et le seul dans la province de Québec. Il est également l’un des deux centres québécois où s’effectue la transplantation rénale pédiatrique. Le programme réalise annuellement environ 8 à 10 transplantations hépatiques pédiatriques.

À propos de la Division de chirurgie pédiatrique

La Division de chirurgie pédiatrique compte 8 chirurgiens pédiatriques, trois moniteurs cliniques (fellows) et 3 infirmières praticiennes. Tous les membres de la division possèdent une formation spécialisée en chirurgie pédiatrique générale et thoracique, incluant la chirurgie néonatale, la prise en charge des patients traumatisés, ainsi que les tumeurs pédiatriques. Les modalités de laparoscopie et de thoracoscopie sont activement utilisées en chirurgie pédiatrique. Pour pratiquer au CHU Sainte-Justine, tous les chirurgiens membres de la division doivent posséder de plus une surspécialisation complétée suite à leur formation en chirurgie générale pédiatrique. Les spécialités représentées incluent:

·         La chirurgie colorectale pédiatrique – Prise en charge des malformations anorectales congénitales et acquises

·         La chirurgie oncologique pédiatrique – Prise en charge chirurgicale des tumeurs pédiatriques solides

·         La chirurgie hépatobiliaire et transplantation pédiatrique – Prise en charge de cas chirurgicaux complexes hépatique et biliaire incluant la transplantation

·         La chirurgie fœtale – Chirurgie In-utero pour malformation congénitale et procédure d’EXIT  

·         La traumatologie pédiatrique – Soins aigus pour trauma pédiatrique

De plus, la division offre les options chirurgicales hépatobiliaires complexes, incluant la ligature de shunt portosystémique congénital, la chirurgie d’hypertension portale (dérivation de type Méso-Rex ainsi que shunts portosystémiques), les résections hépatiques complexes avec reconstruction vasculaire, pour ne nommer que celles-ci.

Dans le cadre du maintien de son programme de chirurgie spécialisée, la Division de chirurgie pédiatrique du CHU Sainte‑Justine souhaite recruter un(e) chirurgien(ne) pédiatrique spécialisé(e) en transplantation hépatique et rénale.

Responsabilités principales

• Réaliser des interventions de chirurgie pédiatrique générale, incluant la chirurgie néonatale
• Participer aux activités cliniques générales du service : consultations, suivi postopératoire, évaluation et suivi de patients en clinique externe, participation au système de soins des patients selon un modèle de chirurgien de la semaine (SOW, surgeon of the week)
• Réaliser des interventions surspécialisées, incluant la transplantation hépatique et rénale ainsi que les chirurgies hépato‑biliaires complexes.
• Participer aux activités spécialisées liées à la transplantation : évaluations pré‑transplantation, suivi des patients hospitalisés après la greffe
• Collaborer étroitement avec les équipes de gastroentérologie, hépatologie, néphrologie, anesthésie, soins intensifs et autres spécialités connexes.
• Contribuer à l’enseignement des résidents, fellows et étudiants en médecine.
• Participer aux activités de recherche clinique ou fondamentale selon les intérêts du candidat et les besoins de la division.
• Assurer une participation dans les horaires de gardes de chirurgie générale pédiatrique ET les gardes spécialisées de transplantation hépatique et rénale.

Qualifications requises

·         Doctorat en médecine et formation spécialisée en chirurgie pédiatrique.

·         Surspécialisation reconnue en transplantation hépatique, dans un centre ayant permis une exposition élevée à la transplantation hépatique pédiatrique (incluant les variantes techniques de foie réduit, split liver transplant et don vivant, en plus de la greffe de foie complet) (diplôme de fellowship de la American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS)).

o    Un(e) candidat(e) intéressé(e) par cette offre d’emploi mais ne possédant pas la formation complémentaire en transplantation au moment de l’application, mais qui s’engage à aller effectuer la formation de 2 ans dans un centre nord-américain reconnu pourra être considéré(e).

·         Éligibilité au permis d’exercice du Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ).

·         Expérience en milieu universitaire ou intérêt marqué pour l’enseignement et la recherche.

·         Excellentes aptitudes en communication, collaboration interdisciplinaire et prise de décision en contexte complexe.

·         Maîtrise du français ou engagement à l’apprendre rapidement.

The Division of Pediatric and Thoracic Surgery at CHU Sainte-Justine, affiliated with the Université de Montréal, is seeking a board certified or board eligible pediatric general surgeon with specialized training in transplantation (liver and kidney). The Division of Pediatric Surgery practices within the CHU Sainte-Justine in Montréal.

About CHU Sainte-Justine

CHU Sainte-Justine is the largest mother-and-child centre in Canada and the second largest in North America. A free-standing hospital dedicated to children and mothers, it has 420 beds and offers a unique multidisciplinary environment entirely focused on pediatric, maternal, and fetal health.

Renowned for its clinical excellence, cutting-edge research, and commitment to innovation, CHU Sainte-Justine is also a major university training centre. Its pediatric surgery training program has been in place since 1957 and includes three fellowship positions at all times.

CHU Sainte-Justine is one of only three centres in Canada performing pediatric liver transplantation and the only one in the province of Québec. It is also one of two centres performing pediatric kidney transplantation in Québec. The program performs approximately 8 to 10 pediatric liver transplants per year.

About the Division of Pediatric Surgery

The Division of Pediatric Surgery includes eight pediatric surgeons, three clinical fellows, and three nurse practitioners. All division members have specialized training in general and thoracic pediatric surgery, including neonatal surgery, trauma care, and pediatric tumors. Laparoscopic and thoracoscopic techniques are actively used in pediatric surgery.

To practice at the CHU Sainte-Justine, all surgeons in the division also require additional subspecialty training completed generally after their pediatric general surgery fellowship. Represented specialties include:

• Pediatric colorectal surgery — Management of congenital and acquired colorectal conditions
• Pediatric oncologic surgery — Surgical care of childhood solid tumors  
• Pediatric hepatobiliary surgery and transplantation — Complex liver and biliary procedures, including transplantation
• Fetal surgery — In‑utero interventions for congenital anomalies as well as EXIT procedures
• Pediatric trauma surgery — Acute care for injured children

The division also performs complex hepatobiliary surgical options, including congenital portosystemic shunt ligation, portal hypertension surgery (Meso-Rex bypass and portosystemic shunts), and complex hepatic resections with vascular reconstruction, among others.

As part of the development of its specialized surgery program, the division of pediatric surgery of the CHU Sainte-Justine is seeking to recruit a pediatric surgeon specializing in liver and kidney transplantation.

Main Responsibilities

• Perform general pediatric surgical procedures, including neonatal surgery.
• Participate in the division’s general clinical activities: consultations, postoperative follow-up, outpatient clinic evaluations, and participation in the surgeon-of-the-week (SOW) care model.
• Perform subspecialized procedures, including liver and kidney transplantation and complex hepatobiliary surgeries.
• Participate in specialized transplantation activities: pre-transplant evaluations and postoperative inpatient care.
• Collaborate closely with gastroenterology, hepatology, nephrology, anesthesia, intensive care, and other specialty teams.
• Contribute to teaching residents, fellows, and medical students.
• Participate in clinical or basic research activities according to the candidate’s interests and division needs.
• Participate to both general pediatric surgery and transplantation (liver and kidney) call schedules.

Required Qualifications

• Medical degree and certified training in pediatric surgery.
• Recognized subspecialty training in liver transplantation from a center with a high volume of pediatric liver transplantation (including reduced-size grafts, split liver transplantation, living donor transplantation, and whole liver grafts) (American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) fellowship certification).
• A candidate interested in this position but not yet holding the complementary transplantation training at the time of application, but who commits to completing a 2‑year fellowship in a recognized North American transplant center, may be considered.
• Eligibility for a medical license from the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ).
• Experience in an academic environment or strong interest in teaching and research.
• Excellent communication skills, interdisciplinary collaboration, and decision-making abilities in complex contexts.
• French working proficiency or commitment to learning French rapidly.
